Sindhu will be promoted from Assistant Manager (Sports) to Deputy Manager, said BPCL CMD S Varadarajan.

New Delhi:

State-owned BPCL on Saturday announced a cash award of Rs 75 lakh and promotion for PV Sindhu, the country's first-ever woman silver medallist in the Olympic Games.

Sindhu has been working with Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) since 2013 and is currently Assistant Manager (Sports) at its Hyderabad office.

Announcing a cash award of Rs 75 lakh for her fleet, BPCL CMD S Varadarajan said Sindhu will be promoted to Deputy Manager.

"Pusarla V Sindhu, a BPCL sports person and ace shuttler of India has scripted a new chapter in Indian sporting history by being India's first woman to win a silver medal in the Olympics with a stunning display of talent, grit and grace," a company statement said.

Sindhu, who hails from Hyderabad, has been associated with BPCL ever since she was 14 years old and joined the company in July 2013.

Sindhu and wrestler Sakshi Malik for winning medals at the Rio Olympics and announced a cash award of Rs 5 lakh for them.

"AIFF Media expresses it's support & solidarity with the sporting fraternity for doing India proud. We award Rs. 5 lakh each to Sindhu and Sakshi," Patel wrote on his personal Twitter handle.

"They make us proud. Their achievements inspire the entire nation," Patel said.

While Sindhu became the first ever woman athlete from India to have won an Olympic silver medal, Sakshi is the first-ever Indian woman wrestler to have won an Olympic medal.
