After playing second fiddle to actors like Salman Khan and Irrfan in his previous films, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is all set to play a lead role in his next 'Freaky Ali'. Though 'Manjhi, The Mountain' was his first solo-hero attempt, 'Freaky Ali' is a different film as he had to learn golf, work on the stance and how to drive, putt.
For an actor who cut his acting teeth in National School of Drama doing comedy roles was it that easy doing serious roles in movies.
'You won't believe, it was because of the comedian tag that I decided to do serious roles in films,' Nawazuddin was quoted as saying. From playing a Pakistani journalist Chand Nawab in 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', to an intrusive and irritating Shaikh in 'The Lunchbox', the actor has been able to play the full gamut of challenging roles.

According to the actor, 'Freaky Ali' has brought alive his comic instincts again. Siddiqui calls it a funny movie with a serious touch as the story revolves around an ordinary man's journey to becoming a star golfer.
Reportedly inspired by Adam Sandler's 'Happy Gilmore', the film has Nawazuddin sing, dance, romance and play funny. Nawazuddin says that he wants to surprise his audience with 'Freaky Ali' as they will get to see his new comic side which they have not seen before.

The actor's role model remains the great comedian I S Johar, who according to him, was never deliberate in making people laugh. 'He was a spontaneous performer,' says the actor.
Nawazuddin always looks for something different in every role and thinks his characters through. This is the reason he keeps gaps between films. 'I need time to get into the skin of the character,' says the actor.
After 'Freaky Ali', Nawazuddin would be doing another hardcore masala film 'Munna Michael' with Tiger Shroff. And then there is Nandita Das's 'Manto' where he plays the titular role.
