Formation of Nirmal as the third district, after Kumram Bheem Mancherial, did evoke some opposition from people in Adilabad but it became a certainty as the idea had come from none other than Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao. The idea of Nirmal district first came a couple of months back when Mr. Rao responded to the demand made by Mudhole MLA G. Vittal Reddy and State Government representative D. Srinivas to include Mudhole Assembly constituency in Nizamabad district.
Mr. Vittal Reddy had raised the demand at an informal private function at Yellareddy MLA Enugu Ravinder Reddy’s home pointing out the difficulty of people in his constituency in reaching Adilabad district headquarter, which is about 150 km away. The Chief Minister had assured him that the problem would be solved once Nirmal became a district with 15 mandals of Mudhole, Nirmal and Khanapur Assembly constituencies.
The talk of trifurcation of Adilabad evoked strong reaction in the headquarter town but the protests were feeble as it turned out. Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna, who belongs to Adilabad, did submit his opposition to Nirmal when he met Deputy Chief Ministers Kadiam Srihari and Mahmood Ali, besides Finance Minister Etela Rajender, and all members of the sub-committee on division of existing districts, about a month ago.
The effort evidently had no effect and will become a reality soon. Some other MLAs like Khanapur’s A. Rekha Naik and Boath's Rathod Bapu Rao also raised objection but said in the same breath that they would go by the will of Mr. Rao.
While these events were taking place at the political level, there were other dynamics which were unfolding at a different plane. The talk of Nirmal district becoming a reality gave a tremendous boost to realty in Nirmal town. The somnolent real estate business saw an unprecedented and incomparable growth overnight. The price of land increased 300 fold and some of the housing layouts where not even one house plot was sold during the last three years saw hundreds being sold in a matter of hours.
The plot of a 30ft x 50ft housing plot on the outskirts of Nirmal town has jumped from Rs. 2 lakh in May to Rs. 8 lakh at present. “Our loaning against gold has shown a record increase during the last two months as investors are raising money to buy property,” a bank official revealed.
