Citing the need for the party to focus more on government than on organisational issues, the ruling CPN (Maoist Centre) has stalled its scheduled national convention.
The party had decided to convene its national convention from January 12 next year. A meeting of the party headquarters held at Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s residence in Lazimpat on Friday took this decision citing Prime Minister Dahal’s hectic schedule. The venue was chosen after party leaders complained of difficulty in getting into the PM’s official residence in Baluwatar.
After the merger of 10 Maoist forces, the party had decided to hold its unity convention early next year. The party has a convention organising committee of around 2,500 members. Yet, the committee is said to take its full shape in two weeks.
Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal said the party was compelled to postpone the meet as holding it could hamper the works of the government. However, the meeting decided to organise provincial meetings, which will be overseen by members of the party headquarters.
Leader Haribol Gajurel said the meeting also decided to restructure the organisational department and develop the terms of reference for the party’s effective functioning.
Meanwhile, the leaders joining from different
Maoist forces have been expressing serious dissatisfaction at the working style of PM Dahal claiming that
they had no access to him and his official residence even to offer suggestions.
