Rawalpindi - The authorities have released US national Mathew Craig Barrett from Adiala Jail, reliable sources disclosed to The Nation yesterday.
A team of investigators of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) received the US national from jail authorities after his release and shifted him to some unknown location, source said. FIA rounded up Mathew Barrett from a guest house in Islamabad on August 6 on charges of slipping into Pakistan despite being placed on blacklist.
Earlier, Special Judge Central Naheem Arshad ordered deportation of US national Mathew Craig Barrett after FIA Inspector Rana Muhammad Akram produced the original orders of Interior Ministry it issued for deportation of the accused from Pakistan.
The special judge also accepted bail pleas of FIA Sub Inspector Raja Asif Raza and his son Constable Ehtasham ul Haq. The court directed each of them to furnish surety bonds worth Rs100,000.
On the other hand, sources at Benazir Bhutto Islamabad International Airport claimed that Mathew Barrett could not be deported to USA from airport. They said that the US national was scheduled to be deported through Islamabad-Damam bounded flight number PK-243 of Pakistan International Airline but it was not done. “The US national could not get boarding pass till 8pm while the doors of plane were closed. The flight flown to Damam at 8:25pm without carrying the US national,” sources said. Another source told The Nation that FIA was making its mind to deport US national Mathew Barrett from Allama Iqbal International Airport, Lahore. Rana Muhammad Akram, FIA inspector, could not be approached for his comments over the deportation of US national.
