Meteorologist Joe Bastardi has made a name (and some good money) for himself denying climate change. Nye decided to go after Bastardi for the bogus argument he penned here.
You may have noticed over the years Bill Nye’s increasingly shrill tones on this matter. I haven’t followed his career all that much, though I knew before I debated him that he and I did not share the same opinion on global warming. My kids, then 14 and 11, pointedly told me I was in essence debating a man as beloved as Santa Claus and that I should be “nice.”
Figured I would throw that in there since reading between the lines gives us a melancholy story of two young children trying to save their father’s soul. In April, Nye hit back. Hard. He challenged Bastardi to put his money where his mouth is: $10,000 that this will be one of the hottest years on record as well as another $10,000 on this decade being one of the hottest on record. He preceded this by breaking down Bastardi’s dubious use of graphs and the income he clearly receives from the fossil fuel industry.
Watch the challenge!
