Peruchazhi director's next is an investigative thriller
Peruchazhi, starring Mohanlal was a political satire, made in a format new to Malayalam cinema. The director of the film, Arun Vaidyanathan, has chosen the same route again for his next, an investigative thriller, he says. 'The film is a Tamil-Kannada bilingual but actually it suits the Malayalam audience as well because Malayalis like investigative movies. I'm a huge fan of films like CBI Diary Kurippu and it is a film with a similar theme in a new format.'
The film, which has been named Nibunan in Tamil and Vismaya in Kannada, stars Tamil actors Arjun, Prasanna and Varalakshmi Saratkumar in the lead roles.
'The original plan was to make it only in Tamil, but Arjun, is quite popular in Kannada too so we decided to make it in Kannada as well. It was shot simultaneously in Bengaluru and Chennai and post production work is progressing.'
Incidentally, Peruchazhi also was supposed to be made in Tamil, reveals the director. 'It was written with Tamil Nadu politics in mind. Lalettan agreed to do the movie so I instantly decided to take it in Malayalam as I wanted to work with him more than anything else.'
Arun, who has directed the critically-acclaimed Tamil film Achchamundu Achchamundu, meanwhile says he is looking forward to working in Malayalam again. 'I want to do one more film in Malayalam, hopefully with Lalettan again. Working with the Peruchazhi team was like a picnic and I'm still in touch with all my friends from the Malayalam film industry. Lijo Jose and I follow each other's work and we would like to work together as a team at some point of time.'
