Trauma centre lies defunct due to lack of funds

Firozabad: City trauma centre meant to deal with critical cases has been lying defunct for the past five months. In want of allocation of funds to buy equipment, the health department has even shifted its emergency ward of the district hospital to this centre.
As the centre is lying defunct, patients are referred to Agra in large numbers and the residents are facing a lot of problems.

Sources said, “Despite crores of rupees being spent on setting up of the facility, patients are not drawing any benefit out of it. There are allegations of medicos seeking bribes for admitting patients over here.”
Officials have reduced the trauma centre to a mere emergency ward. There is nothing there in the name of medical facility, they added.
With an aim to provide immediate medical treatment to accident victims and gravely injured persons, the trauma centre was built at a cost of Rs 1.25 crore. Although the centre became functional in April, 2016, CM Akhilesh Yadav inaugurated it on May 6 and gave instructions to all medical officers to put the centre to good use.
Out of the two technicians posted over here one has already taken transfer to Agra. No nurses have been appointed so far.
When contacted, Ajay Kumar Shukla, chief medical superintendent, said, “Transfer has been done on the order of the health secretary. We have already written to the government seeking more funds for the trauma centre.”
