TOKYO -- Japanese heavy equipment manufacturers are linking up with subcontractors to share information on production and parts, tightening supply chains and avoiding defects via data analysis.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries will create data links between its Seishin facility in Kobe for making jet engine parts and around 20 subcontractors by fiscal 2020. All partners will provide production status updates, while those with automation technology in place will hand Kawasaki Heavy data from sensors affixed to machine tools and industrial robots.
