No one has the right to kill, says grieving family

UDUPI: The family of Vasu Poojari is heartbroken on losing its only breadwinner. Praveen Poojari was killed by cow vigilantes on Wednesday night for transporting calves in his tempo.
His mother Baby demanded justice for her son. "No one has the right to kill anyone, no matter for what reason. If they feel a person is doing wrong, let them complain to police, beating someone to death is not justifiable," she said, tearfully.
Recalling the events, Baby said she had called Praveen at 8pm.
"He did not pick up my call. He hadn't locked the shop before going. The trip was arranged by Ramesh and Narayan Poojari. However, they managed to escape from the spot when the incident took place. Around 10pm, I got a call from his number and someone told me to come to the spot. We immediately rushed to the spot and found Praveen in a serious condition, and police shifting him to hospital," she said.
Praveen, their eldest son, had completed PU and started a business: he ran a general store and a toddy shop, and supplied packaged drinking water for which he was given a van. He also owned a tempo. The couple has two other children, Naveen and Prameela.
Prasad, his brother-in-law, said Praveen was a man with a sense of social responsibility, who stood for the poor and needy. He was popular and many political parties contacted him but he was not interested in politics and declined to join any party. His family was arranging his marriage with a girl from Karkala.

Sanjeeva Shetty, former APMC president, said the village had no Sangh Parivar activity earlier. Arvinda Koteswara, a petrol bunk owner, started some work, but people were not happy as they would stop vehicles and loot money on various pretexts.
Minister of state for fisheries, youth empowerment and sports Pramod Madhwaraj visited Praveen's family, and said he had already spoken to the SP and IGP about the case. "I will also speak to BJP leaders. The incident will be considered seriously. No one is above the law. Whoever is involved will be punished," he warned.
