Man plans murder with Drishyam cues
NEW DELHI: A jeweller, miffed with his neighbour for harassing his sister-in-law, shot at him in northeast Delhi’s Maujpur a fortnight ago. Police disclosed on Wednesday that Deepak, the accused, had plotted Ashok’s murder to parallel the actions in the movie, Drishyam, buying a pistol and motorcycle and leaving false trails for the police.
Incensed with Ashok for ignoring his warning to keep away from his sister-in-law, Deepak fell back on the storyline of Drishyam to try and eliminate his enemy.
He purchased a pistol from a criminal and a motorbike from Durgapuri on August 4. The following day, a helmeted Deepak and a juvenile associate confronted Ashok outside his house and shot at him. The bullet hit Ashok on the shoulder blade.
Deepak parked the motorbike at his shop, and he and the minor took an autorickshaw to ISBT and then to Dhaula Kuan, where they boarded a bus for Jaipur. From there they went to Balaji. In the meantime, Deepak’s family members told police they were clueless about his location even as everyone else in the locality seemed to know that the jeweller had planned to travel to Rajasthan.
“Anand Kumar Mishra, ACP (Seelampur), headed a team tracking the man on the basis of technical surveillance,” said Ajit K Singla, DCP (Northeast). To the police’s surprise, Deepak turned up two days later and joined the investigations enthusiastically. He even collected CCTV footage from the area for the police.
The cops discovered the motorbike at the shop and found that Deepak had not told his friends or family about it. That plus the fact that the jeweller had gone to such lengths to preserve every ticket and pass that he had purchased on his way to Rajasthan made the police see strands of Dhrishyam in Deepak’s actions.
On sustained questioning, Deepak confessed to the shooting. A case of attempt to murder has been registered against him, while the minor has been sent to a juvenile home.
