'You are our daughter', Sushma Swaraj tells injured wrestler Vinesh Phogat

'You are our daughter', Sushma Swaraj tells injured wrestler Vinesh Phogat
NEW DELHI: While the entire country was busy celebrating Sakshi Malik's herculean effort at the Olympics, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi's compatriot, was hurting both physically and mentally.
Vinesh had to exit the Games, following a ligament tear in her right leg while she was competing with China's Sun Yanan on Wednesday. External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, well known for her social media presence, was quick to offer words of comfort to Vinesh.
"Vinesh - You are our daughter. India in Brazil is your family. Ask for anything you require," Swaraj tweeted.
Swaraj, is hugely popular on social media for her quick interventions and responses to calls for help.
Vinesh will be on the track of recovery in a couple of weeks, the doctors have said. But the mental pain that Vinesh is going through is yet to heal. Her state of mind clearly reflected in her tweet on Wednesday night after she had to concede the match:
Vinesh, one of the best of India's women wrestlers, had bright chances of winning a medal for our country in this year's game. But disaster struck when she injured her right knee in the middle of her 48 kg quarterfinal fight against China's Sun Yanan. The anguish on her face was clearly visible while she was being carried away on a stretcher.
A few hours later, Sakshi won in repechage to lift the mood of the nation. Sakshi dedicated her medal to Vinesh and to the country.
