Former GoC-in-C gets PU Maharaja Ranjit Singh Chair

​The chair, which is with the department of defence and National securities, has had no occupants since its inception. It was transferred to the department of history for a while but was ultimately transferred to the department of the defence and national securities.

CHANDIGARH: Former (GoC-In-C) Western Command, Chandimandir, Lt Gen K J Singh, PVSM, AVSM (BAR) (Retd) has accepted the Maharaja Ranjit Singh chair professor, which was recently offered to him by the varsity.
The chair, which is with the department of defence and National securities, has had no occupants since its inception. It was transferred to the department of history for a while but was ultimately transferred to the department of the defence and national securities.
Addressing the gathering at the University during the Independence Day function, Lt Gen K J Singh (Retd) expressed his happiness and gratitude at being associated Maharaja Ranjit Singh chair professor.

The proposal to offer the Chair to Lt Gen K J Singh (Retd) was recently approved by the governing bodies of the varsity.
Lt Gen K J Singh (Retd) will also deliver the Panjab University (PU) colloquium at the university on Wednesday. He will speak on the topic, “Challenges to National security and suggested response strategy“ at 3pm at the Dr S S Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology auditorium.
This will be the first colloquium of the 2016-17 academic session.
Lt Gen K J Singh (Retd) donned the uniform for more than 50 years (including training and schooling at Sainik School), besides 39 years of commissioned service. He commanded Western Command, an operationally committed Corps in North East, an armoured division in the strike corps, a T-90 armoured brigade and an elite armoured regiment, 63 Cavalry. He was Colonel of seven regiments.

He attended the National Defence Course (where he was awarded Col Pyara Lal Medal), higher command course (where he was awarded Commandant's Medal) and Defence Services Staff Course (Naval Staff Course-on competitive vacancy). He has served in counter insurgency areas, Assam Rifles and with United Nations Peace Keeping Force in Angola.
During his UN tenure, he served as the chief operations officer and team commander. He has also been awarded the Chief of Army Staff commendation and UN Force Commanders Citation for bravery for his UN tenure.
