2 Nigerians charged with overstaying

Two Nigerians were arrested by Anjuna police for illegally stay in the country.Both the accused Nigerians are facing trial under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) in court.

Mapusa: Two Nigerians were arrested by Anjuna police for illegally stay in the country.
Both the accused Nigerians are facing trial under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) in court.
Anjuna police said that accused Chidi Osita Okonkwo, 30, a Nigerian national arrested in February 2014 under the NDPS Act is presently facing trial in a special case before the NDPS court, Mapusa.
A copy of his passport and visa sought by the court on August 5, 2015, revealed that he is staying illegally as his passport expired in February 2013 and his visa expired in October 2009.
In another case, accused Ebuka Chinba Obeikwa, 31, a Nigerian national, arrested in March 2015 under the NDPS Act is awaiting trail before the principal district and sessions court at Panaji. He also faces another trial in the same court. Obeikwa, is presently in judicial custody at the central jail, Colvale. Investigations revealed that his passport expired in November 2012 while his visa was valid till December 2014. Both accused were found staying illegally in the country without valid travel documents.
Anjuna police have booked offences under Sec 7 (i), (iii) of Foreigner Order Act 1948 read with Sec 14 of Foreigner Act 1946 and Sec 3 (2) (a) and 6 (a) of Passport Entry into India Rules 1950 and Sec 3 read with Sec 4 of Passport Entry Act in both the cases. tnnAnjuna police are further investigating the cases.
