Virk signs off with a ‘thank you’ note
GURGAON: On Wednesday, the police force in the district witnessed a change of guard. The outgoing police commissioner was relieved of his duties around 6pm, while the new police chief took charge around 7pm.
However, this was not the first time they shared a stage. Navdeep Singh Virk and the new police commissioner, Sandeep Khirwar, met earlier on Wednesday in Panchkula.
Both the officers had attended the state level celebrations of Mahila Police Diwas in the district. After the event concluded both Virk and Khirwar reached Gurgaon, albeit separately. Virk took a flight back, while Khirwar arrived via road.
After he was relieved of his duties, Virk thanked the people of Gurgaon. “Nothing endures more than change. It is inevitable,” said Virk. “That’s why it is now time for me to move on to newer challenges that the duty presents. This time, as IGP, Rohtak Range.”
During his tenure as Gurgaon police commissioner, Virk had launched several police-public partnership initiatives including Car-Free Day, community policing, involving corporates in traffic management etc. Virk mentioned the same in his parting note and said, “Whether it was the launch of our community policing programme or the Car-Free Day experiment or even Udaan initiative, you and me, we became partners in fighting crime, with the sole agenda of making a difference and being the change.”
While handing over the charge, Virk said, “I have full confidence that under the able leadership of my successor, Sandeep Khirwar, Gurgaon Police will reach even greater heights.”
