Thane: The Thane rural police have applied MCOCA against the Bunk gang, which had carried out a series of armed robberies in Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts and Gujarat, said Mahesh Patil, superintendent of police (Thane rural).
The police arrested the gang leader, Debashish Bunk and his accomplices on May 25 from Titwala. They also found a huge cache of arms including 2 pistols, 51 cartridges, 2 country-made revolvers, 3 choppers, 3 swords, and other tools used in robberies, said a cop.
The accused are currently in the custody of Gujarat police, who are still investigating their involvement in crimes in the state. The police also arrested six other accomplices—Kailas Dighe, Rupesh Dahiwade, Ramesh Das, Alok Soni and Mantu Lohar.
The police said that the modus operandi of the gang was to break into the houses and by flashing pistols and choppers and flee with the booty.
In one such case, Bunk and other six others wore moneky-caps and sneaked inside Pandharinath Deshmukh’s house on December 21, 2015 at night and, after tying up the members, fled with booty of Rs 96,500.
