Spartak Moscow have confirmed former caretaker manager Massimo Carrera as their new head coach as the Russian club look to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

The Italian, who signed a two-year deal, took temporary charge of the side earlier this month following Dmitri Alenichev's resignation.

Carrera was originally appointed assistant manager in June but takes the reigns after Spartak were knocked out of the Europa League in the qualifying rounds at the hands of AEK Larnaca, prompting Alenchev's departure.

Carrera's career in football has spanned 34 years and includes spells at Juventus as both player and assistant manager as well as a two year stint as the assistant to Antonio Conte with the Italian national team.

This is his first chance to showcase his talents as a head coach.
