KANNUR: One hundred and seven CPM ‘rebels’ in Bedakam in Kasaragod joined the CPI in a "welcome meeting" at Kuttikkol, on Wednesday. This is the culmination of an internal feud in the party that began in 2011.
The rebels joined the CPI under the leadership of P Gopalan Master (80), a senior leader of the CPM. CPI state assistant secretary Sathyan Mokeri received the dissenters from the CPM into the party fold.
He termed this as a moment of "homecoming".
In his speech, Gopalan Master said joining the CPI was the much-needed solution to end the pain they suffered all these years.
The bickering in the CPM in Bedakam began in November 2011, with the factional feud over the election to the Bedakam area committee. However, the squabbling came out in open and on August 19, 2014, when the rebels organized parallel functions there to show their strength.
Ever since that incident, the problem was burning within the party, which culminated into the rebels joining the CPI. Though only 107 have joined now, more people are expected to join the CPI in the coming days, hinted the rebels.
