UP police today arrested four people in connection with attack on Brijpal Teotia. The four people have been identified as Rahul Tyagi, Jitendra, Nishant and Ram Kumar. Inspector General of Meerut, Sujeet Pandey said that Ram Kumar allegedly followed Brijpal Tevatia and others on the day of the incident and gave information of his movement to the rest of the gang. Nishant, who was one of the shooters and Ram Kumar have been found to have been two of the main conspirators of the attack. While Jitendra, another accused has been found to have arranged the shooters.
The gang used AK 47 and shot around 100 rounds of fire at Brijpal Teotia’s SUV.
The attack on Brijpal Teotia happened on the 12th of August at 8PM in Murad Nagar. The BJP leader was coming to Ghaziabad when the gang opened fire at his SUV on Rawli Road area and later fled the spot.
The BJP leader was returning to Ghaziabad after addressing a dharna against the Bulandshehr gangrape incident where mother-daughter duo were dragged out the car and were allegedly gangraped by 7-8 men.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had rushed a team, consisting of additional director general of police, Daljit Singh Chawdhary and inspector general, special task force (STF), Ram Kumar to Ghaziabad to look into the matter.
Police had later recovered the car which was used by the gang, two pistols, one rifle and ammunition from the spot.
Teotia runs a property business and possess ownership of agricultural land and has a significant role in setting up party’s base among the farmers and the Jat community.He is also considered to have played a significant role in the 2009 Lok Sabha when Rajnath Singh contested the elections from Ghaziabad.
Known as ‘vidhayak ji’ in the area, Teotia enjoys support from the local people. According to the sources, Teotia had been preparing for 2017 assembly poll from Muradnagar.
