: The body of a five-year-old girl was found in a forested area near south Delhi’s Mahipalpur on Tuesday, triggering panic among locals that she had been murdered.

It later turned out that the girl had died of dengue, and had been buried by her parents.

The girl, Shristi, lived in Arjun Camp.

On Monday, she died due to dengue in Safdarjung Hospital, after which she was buried by her father, Jai Bahadur, in Rangpur Pahari.

On Tuesday morning, when her body was found, she was rushed to the AIIMS mortuary. Later, her identity was established.

“There is a possibility that some stray animal might have dug out her body. However, no external injuries were found on the body. The post-mortem has also ruled out the possibility of any assault on her,” a senior police officer said.
