Haryana, Punjab Governor Solanki almost faints while addressing gathering

Haryana and Punjab Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki almost fainted on the stage while delivering his speech during the Independence Day function which was being marked by the UT Administration at Sector 17 Parade Ground Monday.

Solanki was half-way through his speech when he suddenly started feeling dizzy. Realising that something must be wrong with Solanki, Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Ajit Balaji Joshi and senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Sukhchain Singh Gill immediately called for a glass of water and arranged a chair. A doctor was called upon who gave him some medicines along with a glass of juice. Solanki was asked whether he wanted to visit a hospital, but he refused, as he did not want to leave the event in between.

“Despite being unwell, he was there for the entire programme. We salute his commitment,” said Joshi.

Though the Governor did not visit the hospital after the event, but doctors at the PGI confirmed that he is already undergoing cardiac treatment from PGIMER, Chandigarh. Recently, he underwent a cardiac procedure at the hospital as well.

The cultural programme which was to begin immediately after his speech was also stalled for a while, but resumed as soon as Solanki was stable. The Governor felicitated those who brought laurels to the state in different fields, apart from citizens, officers and employees who provided excellent services. As many as 48 persons were awarded by the UT Administrator Kaptan Singh Solanki. Among the awardees were Seema, a resident of sector 41 who caught two thieves, the coach of sportsman Abhinav Bindra, Amit Bhattacharjee, Manvi Goyal, Inspector Ram Rattan and Sub Inspector Arun Kumar among others.

Earlier, after unfurling the national flag, Solanki paid floral tributes to martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country, at the War Memorial in Sector 3 here.Paying tributes to all the known and unsung heroes of the freedom struggle, the Governor urged the people to safeguard the freedom which was attained after long struggle and sacrifice.

He also lauded the development works carried out in Haryana, which helped the state emerge as a leader in development with Faridabad being included in the list of cities to be developed as ‘Smart Cities’.
