CHANDIGARH: Gurgoan commissioner of police Navdeep Singh Virk -- who faced flak after a spell of rains brought the city to a halt -- was transferred out on Tuesday, and posted as inspector-general of police (IG), Rohtak range. Five other IPS officers were also transferred by the Haryana government. Sandeep Khirwar, IG (security) with additional charge of railways and commando, was appointed Gurgaon's new police commissioner.
Khirwar, a 1995 -batch IPS officer, is expected to take charge soon.
Virk replaced Sanjay Kumar, who has been given the charge of IG (security), said an official spokesman here. Virk came under fire after traffic in the 'Millennium City' came to a standstill due to heavy rains and waterlogging last month. He was also involved in a spat with another IPS officer Bharti Arora over a rape case last year, when the then Gurgaon joint commissioner of police (traffic) had accused him of putting pressure on and threatening her to falsely implicate the family members of the accused.
Besides Virk, Khirwar and Kumar, Alok Kumar Roy, IG (state crime branch), has been posted as ADGP (railways and commando); S K Jain, IG (home guards), has been posted as ADGP (home guards); and Rajbir Singh Deswal, IG, Haryana Police Academy (HPA), Madhuban, has been posted as ADGP (human rights and litigation) at police headquarters, Panchkula, said the spokesman.
