According to the police and eyewitnesses, Rescue 1122 managed to bring the man down safely after an effort lasting two-and-a-half-hour.
Rescue 1122 officials told The Express Tribune a man in his 40s clambered up the electricity pole. He was carrying both low and high tension lines on Kehal Road opposite Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Teaching Hospital at around 10:15pm. To prevent him from getting electrocuted, Pesco authorities suspended power supply to the entire city on the request of local police and rescue services.
The man started crying when volunteers and rescue officials tried to persuade him to come down. Rescue officials laid out a safety net and finally threw the man down. He landed safely on the protective sheet.
The police and Rescue 1122 officials said the man was unhurt and was later taken to the Cantonment police station where he was identified as Abdul Rasheed alias Qari Rasheed, a resident of Muslimabad. A criminal case was registered against him under Section 325 of the Pakistan Penal Code. According to the police, the man is believed to be mentally disturbed.
