PVR Pictures today said that both Mohenjo Daro and Rustom are doing well at its cinema halls. PVR representatives told BTVI that the company had a “robust” extended weekend ending Monday due to Independence Day holiday. The average occupancy at PVR cinema halls over the period was around 70-75%. The company said that four more movies are lined up for release this month, while Aamir Khan starrer ‘Dangal’ is one of the “keenly awaited movie this year.” A biographical sports drama film directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Dangal will release on December 3. Aamir plays the role of Mahavir Singh Phogat, who trained his daughters Babita Kumari and Geeta Phogat in wrestling.
Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde starrer Mohenjo Daro opened to mix responses on Friday and managed first day collection of about Rs 8.87 crore, amid stiff competition from Akshya Kumar and Ileana D Cruz starrer Rustom. Both the fims gave Bollywood its second highest weekend collection this year at about Rs 80,000 crore. In the first three days, Rustom collected about Rs 50 crore while Mohenjo Daro added Rs 30 crore to the combined collection. Akshay Kumar is having a great run this year with his three films among the top five openers of this year. While Housefull 3 earned Rs 15.21 crore on day 1, Airlift’s tally was Rs 12.35 crore. Both the movies did over Rs 100 crore business. Earlier this year, Salman Khan starrer Sultan which released on July 6 had collected Rs 180 crore over the weekend.
