‘Jallikattu,’ the bull-taming sport, will be held in Tamil Nadu during the 2017 Pongal festival, said Pon. Radhakrishnan, Minister of State for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, on Tuesday.

Addressing the media here, Mr. Radhakrishnan disagreed with the observations of his colleague and Union Minister Maneka Gandhi that ‘ jallikattu ’ was a dangerous sport that put the lives of animals and humans at great risk.

He said Jallikattu was a traditional sport of bravery in Tamil Nadu. While the Supreme Court had banned it, the Centre was looking at multiple possibilities to revive it in the State.

It would be organised in a grand manner in Tamil Nadu next year, Mr. Radhakrishnan said. Any sport, including cricket and kabaddi, had their share of challenges.
