20 Maoists surrender on Independence Day in Chhattisgarh

Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Aug 16 (UNI) As many as 20 Naxals, including two Jan Militia commanders and four women, have surrendered before Bastar police on the Independence Day.
The rebels, all residents of a remote Badanpal village near Chandameta hills, were handed over to police yesterday by nearly 100 villagers, who were fed up, following repeated raids and combing operations by security personnel in and around the village, a known stronghold of Naxals.
Bastar Superintendent of Police RN Das said police had intensified its counter-insurgency operation in this forested area after two Naxals were gunned down in a recent encounter near Badanpal village.
