CLRI scientist bags Kalam award

A press release said the Chief Minister's Best Practices Award was bagged by three departments.

Chennai: Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Monday presented the state awards for those who had rendered meritorious service to society. Dr Abdul Kalam award announced last year was bagged by the Central Leather Research Institute’s principal scientist P. Shanmugam for his services in higher education department of Tamil Nadu and Kalpana Chawla Award for Courage and Daring Enterprise was presented to Jayanthi of Namakkal district by the CM during the Independence Day celebrations.

The Kalam award carried a certificate, Rs 5 lakh and eight gram gold medal and the Kalpana Chawla award consisted of Rs 5 lakh, a certificate and a gold coated medal.

A press release said the Chief Minister’s Best Practices Award was bagged by three departments. Thanjavur Collector N. Subbaiyan and Superintendent of Police Mayilvahanan got the awards for 2016 Mahamaham arrangements.
Under the exemplary service to differently-abled, D. Rajakannan of Chennai bagged the best doctor award and M.P. Mohammad Rafi was judged as the best social worker. Little Flower Higher Secondary School in Chennai for the impaired was awarded as the best institution award.

Revenue minister R. B. Udhayakumar and principal secretary, revenue department, B. Chandramohan received the award in the field of online patta transfer. Dindigul Corporation received the Best Corporation Award while Pattukottai Municipality received the Best Municipality first prize while Perambalur Municipality bagged the second prize.

The Chief Minister’s state Youth Award was presented to K. Masha Nazeem in women’s category while in men’s category, P. Ruban Santhosh, bagged the award which carries a certificate, Rs 50,000 and a medal.

Tamil Nadu municipal administration and rural development minister S. P. Velumani and principal secretary, rural development, Hansraj Verma, received the award for solid waste management in rural areas, a release added.
