Bambawd double muder accused held
GREATER NOIDA: Two days after residents of Bambawd village gave an ultimatum to the police to rescue the two ‘missing’ children of a couple who were murdered by a friend, allegedly involved in witchcraft, the police arrested the main accused.
The teenage girl, who was suspected have been abducted along with other family members, has also been rescued. Police said the girl was wearing a sari and vermilion on her forehead and had allegedly married the accused, Pramod Kumar Sharma.
The girl’s four-year-old brother, who was also ‘missing’ since August 1, was rescued and handed over to the family.
There is also an element of witchcraft in the case with the police trying to ascertain if the girl went with Pramod of her own accord. The family members maintain she was abducted.
On the intervening night of August 1 and 2, the main accused, Pramod (45), and his domestic help, Salman, had allegedly murdered Ved Prakash and his wife Vimlesh by strangling them. While Ved Prakash's body was recovered from Masuri Canal on August 7, his wife's body was found in Rabupura, Greater Noida, on August 9. Their two children were missing since then. Salman is already in police custody.
SP (rural) Abhishek Yadav said that Pramod has confessed to having killed the couple as he wanted to marry their daughter. “They were in a relationship for the past three-four months. However, we are trying to ascertain if the girl was forced into it,” he said.
The two had travelled to Mathura, Rajasthan, and other places. Pramod was arrested on Monday afternoon on Dadri bypass, where he had come to collect cash from friends as he had exhausted all his money,” he said.
Pramod did not use his mobile phone or ATM card for 15 days to evade arrest.
Family members said the accused has lured the girl into going with him.
