- 25. Requirements Should you Buy a Textbook? Not necessarily, because an online version of the book is available in MyLab with just the Access Code. Here are your options: Buy a textbook – The biggest advantage of having a book is that you can study offline. And if you buy it new at the Mendocino College bookstore (in Ukiah, Lakeport, or Willits), it comes bundled with a MyLab Access Code. Get a Used Book – This is fine, but you also will need to have your own MyLab Access Code, since the codes are linked to a specific student. Buy a stand-alone code – This is a less expensive option, and gets you into the course where you can use the online textbook (downside: can’t scroll, must click page to page.) You may purchase it at the Mendocino College bookstore, or online with a credit card during the MyLab registration process. [Note: If you plan to buy a textbook off-campus, check your course syllabus for the correct ISBNs to be sure you get the book and an access code.]

If you are unable to purchase a book or an access code right away, you can (and must, so that you do not get behind) utilize a temporary 14-day access code. You will find the option for this when you are going through the procedure of accessing the class. When asked for an access code, you will see an option for the temporary code. You must upgrade to a full access code within the 14 days, or you risk not being able to complete the class.
