All four of Waterloo Region’s townships have lifted a temporary burn ban in place since July 20th.

Wellesley, Wilmot, Woolwich and North Dumfries had issued fire bans where the flames are not wholly contained – such as the burning of brush, cardboard, wood and garden waste.

The recent rainfall coupled with forecasts predicting rain this week means the fire risk has decreased.

Anyone with an Open Burn Permit will now be able to burn materials such as wood, cardboard, tree limbs, brush and/or garden waste.

In a media release fire Chief, Rick Pedersen said, “While the ban has been lifted, we ask for everyone to remain cautious, attentive, and have extinguishing agents available at all times. Woolwich has done a great job adhering to the recent ban and it is important to maintain this level of safety as the ban is lifted.”

The township fire Chiefs say they will continue to monitor conditions this summer and if the hot weather returns, additional bans will be issued.

Both Brant and Huron county have also lifted their open air burn bans.
