Jerry Jones has new QB crush to replace Johnny Manziel

Jerry Jones’ unrequited football love affair with Johnny Manziel appears to be over now that he’s found someone else.

Following Dallas’ 28-24 preseason loss to the Rams on Saturday, Jones and his family made a pit stop at Manziel’s favorite LA hot spot, The Nice Guy. But before the Cowboys owner made it past the velvet ropes, TMZ pressed him about why the Browns flameout would never be on the roster.

“Dak Prescott,” Jones said without hesitation.

Prescott, who stunned in his debut, throwing 139 yards for two touchdowns, was selected by the club in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. The former Mississippi State standout’s performance impressed key teammates as well as Jones.

“I think the best thing about Dak is that he is extremely calm,” star wide receiver Dez Bryant said. “It’s like he’s been here before. He’s not playing like a rookie. He is going to be very good. He’s special.”

While Dallas’ quarterback situation looked bleak earlier this month — thanks in part to Jones and his big mouth — the Cowboys faithful can rest slightly easier knowing Tony Romo’s backup has some big-play ability.

Sources told Page Six that Manziel, after abandoning an early-summer attempt to get sober, is again “giving himself a year to get sober and get ready for football. He wants to play again.”

Manziel has made it known he would like to play for the Cowboys, but as Jones told ESPN before the Prescott era ever began, he wanted the Heisman Trophy winner to take care of his health first.

“I don’t have any sense of how I feel right now other than I just really like him and know him and like him,” Jones said. “I really appreciate all the positive things he’s done while at [Texas] A&M, what he did as a Heisman Trophy winner and what he is about [in] football. We have that in common.

“Consequently it really makes me dwell on his getting things in better shape for him so he can do not just football, but anything. That’s because I have an appreciation for what he did do. You can’t take that away for him. He really did something special for A&M, football and for all of us. We’ll worry about the future later.”
