Twenty five Citizen Airmen took part in Air Force Reserve Command’s (AFRC) Noncommissioned officer Leadership Development Course (NCOLDC) from August 1-5, here.

The five-day course, hosted by the 927th Air Refueling Wing, MacDill Air Force Base Fla., provided mid-level enlisted personnel with hands on experience in leadership and management principles.

Tech. Sgt. Jason Knepper, 927th Security Forces Squadron attended the course which focused on NCO core competencies such as strategic thinking, effective communication, and leadership through guided discussions, role playing exercises and Reserve-centric case studies.

“The greatest benefit for me from that course was the interaction with members of other units and AFSCs,” said Tech. Sgt. Jason Knepper. “Understanding the leadership methods, modalities, and perceptions from other career fields in the Air Force improved my ability to interact with personnel assigned to those units in the performance of my duties.”

The NCOLDC is facilitated by senior noncommissioned officers assigned to AFRC. Master Sgt. Christina Bicknell, 919th Special Operations Communications Squadron, First Sgt., is one of the facilitators that traveled to instruct this course.

“This course allows Air Force reservists from all specialties to network together in a formal academic environment,” said Bicknell. “Professional Military Education courses provide an opportunity to educate Airmen on most effective leadership skills and methods of mentoring the junior enlisted of the Air Force Reserve.”

At the conclusion of the course, Chief Master Sgt. Michael Klausutis, command chief, 927th Air Refueling Wing, addressed each NCOLDC graduate, encouraging them to incorporate what they’ve learned in the classroom into their daily lives.

“I challenge each one of you to not only bring what you have learned over the last week back to your work centers and those you supervise, but to also share your experience with your peers and encourage them to attend this course at the next opportunity,” said Klausutis. “Leadership development doesn’t start when you walk into this course, it begins with the desire to be the best Airmen and taking the proper steps to be just that.”

The NCOLDC is held annually and targeted to Air Reserve Component (ARC) and Active Guard Reserve (AGR) members with the rank Staff Sergeant and Technical Sergeant.
