A Mombasa court has summoned Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko to explain the whereabouts of MRC Chairman Omar Mwamnuadzi.

The Senator was summoned on Monday after Mwamnuadzi absconded a hearing.

He had submitted three title deeds to help secure the accused's release.

The court further issued a warrant for Mwamnuadzi's arrest after the ODPP proved he had faked illness so as not to attend the hearing.

The MRC leader had presented documents showing he had been admitted at Coast Provincial General Hospital with multiple ailments.

But state counsel Jami Yamina told the court the document was fake and that the hospital admission number was of a man identified as

Simon Miano.

Chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti further said Mwamnuadzi had intentionally been absconding hearings at the Mombasa and Kwale courts.

The accused and 25 others were charged in 2012 with being members of the outlawed group.

They were accused of several counts of incitement and possession of firearms.

But a court of appeal legalised the Mombasa Republican Council last week.
