George Low's Family 'Numb' After Fatal Stabbing In Ayia Napa

The mother of a 22-year-old man stabbed and killed in the holiday resort of Ayia Napa in Cyprus has said her family have been left "numb" at his death.

George Low, an estate agent from from Dartford, Kent, died from a stab wound to the neck on the last day of his week-long break in the party town.

His friend, Ben Barker, also 22, was knifed four times in the back in the pre-dawn attack, which happened as they walked down a busy street on Sunday.

His injuries are not life-threatening.

Mr Low's mother, Helen, 47, said her husband Martyn and their children Wesley, Laura, Oliver and Millie, were "heartbroken".

The two friends had been due to fly home on Sunday, she said.

Mrs Low, a community carer, said: "We cannot believe something like this could happen to our son. We're just struggling.

"He loved it over there and everybody loved him. There was something special about George. He would speak to people and they would instantly love him.

"Nobody could say anything bad about George."

She added: "We're just so numb. He was a very popular boy. He wasn't an aggressive person.

"He was fun-loving, kind and lived life to the full.

"Friends said he was like an Adonis. They all think the world of him. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Relatives are now planning to fly out to Ayia Napa to bring his body back to the UK.

Mrs Low added: "We hope they catch whoever was responsible. We've heard reports that (the Cypriot authorities) are controlling the borders."

The Foreign Office has said it is supporting Mr Low's family and remains in contact with local authorities.
