A section of Maasai leaders have assured President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP William Ruto of their support in the 2017 general election.

They said that the community supported Cord leader Raila Odinga in 2013 but now wants to back the Jubilee administration.

Cord will not get any votes, said the leaders who attended the homecoming ceremony of Geothermal Development Corporation managing director and CEO Johnson ole Nchoe at his Rotian home on Friday.

President Uhuru Kenyatta, National Assembly Majority leader Aden Duale, Interior CS Joseph Nkaissery, his Energy counterpart Charles Keter and Narok Governor Samuel Tunai were present.

The group expressed the Maasai community's gratitude for various appointments in government.

"As a community, we are privileged to have a cabinet secretary post, several principal secretary positions, and several high level government positions. We pledge our support for your government in the next elections," Nchoe said.

The GDC boss urged the Maasai to remain united and maintain peace ahead of the 2017 general election set for August 8.

Nchoe noted differences of opinion in the community but said focus has always been on unity through cultural mechanisms.

"As we approach the next election, let us remain true to the Maasai spirit – the spirit of peace and brotherhood," he said.

While thanking the government for giving him the job, Nchoe urged the leaders to work together so that the region can prgress in development.

"The nation is bigger than an individual and a leader must guide his people towards development," he said.

Former Heritage minister William Ntimama said Jubilee is the way to go in the next polls as it has accommodated the Maasai.

"I will support the Jubilee government for the benefit of our people. Never in history had the community received a big chunk of appointments as witnessed in this government," said Ntimama.

The former minister recently regretted not supporting Uhuru in the last presidential race. He backed Cord leader Raila Odinga.

"When retired President Daniel arap Moi pleaded with me to throw my support to Uhuru in 2002 general elections, I remained big-headed. I realise I made the same mistake in last year's polls. Uhuru has proven to be a good leader who has the ability to unite all Kenyans," he said.

MPs Ken Kiloku (Narok East), Moses ole Sakuda ( Kajiado West), Korei ole Lemein (Narok South) and Lati Lelit (Samburu West) said the Jubilee government has catered for the interests of the community.

They said there was no reason to support any other party in the next poll.

Uhuru said the Maasai community stands to reap lots of benefitsfrom his government, which he said will not leave anyone out.
