Manipur embodies concerns of minorities in India's northeast

NEW DELHI -- Her tears flowed when a spoonful of honey was put on the woman's right palm. More tears spilled down her cheeks as she brought a dab of honey to her mouth with her left index finger. The honey was the first food she allowed herself in 16 years.

On Aug. 9, Irom Sharmila, an Indian human rights activist living in Imphal, the capital of the northeastern state of Manipur, ended her long hunger strike.
