Fedon opens at key LCC airports in Italy

Heritage lifestyle Italian house, Fedon, has just opened two new flagship stores: at Orio al Serio Airport in Bergamo – which services Milan chiefly via low-cost carriers – and at Rome’s low-cost gateway, Ciampino International.

The new stores expand Fedon’s airport footprint in Italy where it is already present at terminals one and two of Rome Fiumicino (Alitalia’s hub), Milan Malpensa, Venice Marco Polo, and Olbia Airport in Sardinia.

Italy-based travel retail consultancy, 2.0 & Partners, says that a further opening is expected at Naples Airport, possibly in August.

Fedon – originally founded in 1919 as Giorgio Fedon & Figli, the maker of eyeglass cases and since expanded into leather products such as bags, gifts, travel set and tech accessories – is now looking to the European market for further duty free and travel retail exposure.

60 STORES PLANNED OVER FOUR YEARS

In a statement it says it has an ambitious development plan “focused on opening direct sales outlets, wall units, corners and shop-in-shops”. The company says: “Negotiations are underway to create new sales units in some of the most prestigious airports in Europe.”

Passoni: ‘three shops by the end of the year’

Marco Passoni, Senior Executive VP at 2.0 & Partners comments to TRBusiness: “We are tendering and/or direct dealing with a few key airports abroad with the objective to get – and hopefully to open – three more shops by the end of this year. The company has approved a major development plan which foresees the opening of 60 stores over the next four years, mostly in travel retail.”

Fedon adds that it ended May with “excellent” sales results and it is now diversifying its product portfolio. Group President, Callisto Fedon comments: “The latest innovation from Fedon is a collection of sunglasses, only on sale at Fedon stores. They are intended for discerning consumers and perfectly combine fine materials including leather, of course, which is the mainstay of our products.’

Fedon has over 1,600 employees with factories in Italy, Romania and China, as well as sales offices in the US, Hong Kong, Germany and France.
