One person died and another was injured on Sunday during a fight between herders from two communities in Kuri, Isiolo County.

Garba Tula Deputy County Commissioner Kipchumba Rutto said the injured man was receiving treatment at the Modogashe Hospital.

Mr Rutto said 10 Borana herders attacked three Somalis herding their livestock and a confrontation ensued.

According to Mr Rutto, all the herders were armed.

However, no animals were stolen and police have been deployed to provide security in the area following increased tension.

SUSPECTS NAMED

The administrator added that names of the 10 suspects have been forwarded to police for investigations.

Tension has been high in the Garba Tula following the invasion of grazing zones by camels from Garissa.

“The Isiolo County security team had ordered the Somali herders to vacate, but they have continued to graze their animals hence causing tension. We have launched investigations to arrest the inciters,” said Mr Rutto.

The DCC further said the government will use force if the Somali herders fail to vacate the area immediately.

The migration of livestock into Isiolo grazing zones has been attributed to drought in Garissa County.
