MOSCOW (Sputnik) – On Saturday, a lone shooter killed an imam and his assistant close to the Al-Furqan Jame Masjid mosque.
The suspect has been detained and is being questioned, the senior police officer said, as quoted by the television broadcaster NBC.
The suspect, who matches the shooter's description and was detained while approaching a vehicle under police surveillance, has not yet been arrested or charged, according to the channel.
Previously, a preliminary investigation indicated that the imam and his assistant were shot in the head during a robbery while walking in the Queens neighborhood Ozone Park following afternoon prayers.
