It is rare to find a top government official who nurses a hobby which draws parallels with his work. At the recently held annual Lalit Doshi Memorial lecture in Mumbai, former Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Vinod Rai was invited as the speaker, where it was revealed that he loved gardening.
Bharat Doshi, a member of the Foundation and formerly with Mahindra and Mahindra Financial Services, recalled that when he met Rai, the latter described himself as a ‘mali’. "Therein lies the perfect fit. A mali unearths weeds, removes them and identifies good plants for nourishment. During his reign as CAG, Rai did just that—he exposed and unearthed many weeds," said Doshi. The audience for Rai’s lecture included Adi Godrej, Uday Kotak and Shashi Kiran Shetty.
