BENGALURU: The Bengaluru City Traffic Police are updating the mobile app Public Eye to enable road users to upload video clips of traffic violations so that they can deal with every case of traffic violation.
The police took the decision after they could not proceed with many cases due to inadequate information and poor photograph quality. On several occasions, they proved to be too weak to confirm a case of violation.

R Hithendra, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) told ET that the traffic police have just launched a twitter handle @btppubliceye, and they want to take public eye to next level by providing a plat form for uploading videos of the cases of traffic violations. It is difficult capture the violation in one or two photographs like jumping the signals and other violations. The photographs were not clear too making it difficult for us to book cases.

At present there only 150 to 200 cases are booked other than 300 to 350 cases reported through the public eye due to lot of errors such as date, time and location and the photographs.

The city traffic police launched Public Eye four years ago aiming to make road users follow traffic regulations, and wanting to make every road user a sort of policeman as well by arming with a platform to report cases of violations. People could file compliants by uploading information of the vehicle registration number and uploading photographs online.

Two years ago, it brought out a mobile app where people could down load the Public Eye app and open the application directly when they see any violations and report from the spot. Last year, the city police along with the nonprofit Janaagraha un der iChange my city had re launched Public Eye as a mobile photo application to ensure mo torists maintained road disci pline. Later this year Swachh Bengaluru was launched to re port traffic violations.

Assistant Police Commissioner (Traffic & Planning) RI Kasim said all traffic violations reported via these applications finally reach the traffic police. The dedicated team of four police staffers work on these cases and, issue notice after verifying the photographs, date, time and location. Many complaints get rejected as the photographs are not clear to show the violations.

“We can't take all the complaints in the Public Eye such as over-speeding, reckless driving, line discipline, etc. The cases of not wearing helmet, wrong parking, seat-belt, sun-film, footpath riding and other violations can be reported,“ he said.
