India clinched the series in West Indies after an impressive performance with the bat and with the ball to win the third Test by 237 runs to take unassailable 2-0 lead in four match series. Now with focus firmly set on consolidating that lead and getting a good ranking out of it, India will move to the fourth Test at Port of Spain. Later in the year, India will possibly face tougher tests back home against New Zealand and then England.
But in the West Indies, the Indian players have had a gala time on and off the field. They started the tour with some off-field bonding exercises and travelling around the islands in the Caribbean alongside BCCI staff members, selectors and new coach Anil Kumble. Later, the team got the job done on the field too with dominant performances in the first and third Test to seal the deal.
Now on India’s Independence Day, members of the team wished the country on the 70th Independence Day with captain Virat Kohli leading the congratulatory messages. He said in a video posted by BCCI, “Here’s wishing the people of India a happy Independence Day. Enjoy the day and the enjoy the freedom. Fly lots of kites but be safe.”
Ajinkya Rahane in his message said, “I wish all India citizens a happy Independence Day. I just want to ask everyone to support each other and help each other in moving forward.”
Cheteshwar Pujara wished the country in Gujarati. “Wishing the Indian residents a happy Independence Day. My best wishes to everyone on the day.”
