City corporation commissioner Harsha Shetty has asked residents who have illegally constructed structures on M.G. Road to demolish them.

In release here, he said that the corporation would demolish the structures if the owners did not do it and collect its cost from them.

Mr. Shetty said that some people were constructing illegal structures on M.G. Road despite knowing that the road was being widened under the master plan project.

The release said that ‘Krishna’, the house of one of the petitioners who had gone to the court seeking higher compensation, would be demolished as the owner had failed to get it demolished even after receiving compensation.

The release said that the High Court of Karnataka’s Kalaburagi Bench had directed the owners to get the house demolished within 10 days after receiving compensation, but the owner did not comply with the order.

A drive would be launched with the help of councillors to collect the pending property tax from property owners, Mr. Shetty said. Besides urging councillors to convince the residents in their wards to clear the bills, Mr. Shetty appealed to the people to cooperate with the officials to clear the bills.

Mr. Shetty issued a warning to those who sell plastic flags on account of Independence Day. He said that as the usage of plastic was banned by the State government, no one was allowed to sell plastic flags. Such plastic items would be seized.
