Ayurveda hospital to get a lift

August 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:28 am IST - KOCHI:

The government has approved a proposal for installing a lift at the District Ayurveda Hospital. It will be tendered as soon as the monsoon ban on public work is lifted.

The move came a day after the bystander of a patient died at the hospital following the alleged delay in taking him to a specialty hospital owing to the absence of a lift.

The governing body of the district panchayat has already sanctioned Rs.40 lakh for installing the lift.

Meanwhile, the District Planning Committee had proposed to increase the bed strength of the hospital from the current 50 to 100, district panchayat president Asha Sanil said. However, the Health Minister turned down the proposal, thanks to the cap in enhancing staff strength.

“The hospital at present has enough staff, though there has been a request for a male warden. Another drawback of the hospital is the absence of a ramp. It will be taken up soon to make the hospital accessible to the disabled,” she added.

Ms. Sanil said there was no dearth of funds for improving facilities at the hospital.
