Raising a strong case for bovine protection, Viswa Hindu Parishad leaders toed the line of Praveen Togadia, International Working President of the organisation, at their Akhand Bharat Diwas meet here on Sunday.

The Diwas, an annual event of the VHP on August 14, is meant to keep alive the idea of undivided India that includes even foreign territories. Speaking at the meet, Raghav Reddy, International working President of VHP said that while the incident of beating Dalits in Gujarat is to be condemned, the party supports Gau Rakshaks whose aim is to protect cows.

“Cow is mata and this divine being should be protected like one protects one’s mother. It is the duty of every Hindu to protect cows,” said Mr. Reddy, adding that VHP had taken up Gau Raksha as its mission and would continue it. The meet also had the presence of speakers including Bajrang Dal’s State and national leaders but VHP international president Togadia did not turn up though he confirmed participation. The meet which was organised by the party was attended mostly by youth among senior members of the party. Speaking to youth in the country, Mr. Reddy appealed to students to support the idea of spiritual nationalism and Hindu nation.

Criticising Telangana Rashtra Samiti leadership, Mr. Kashi Reddy Venkat Reddy, editor of Vishwa Hindu monthly said it was only Hindu votes which can bring a party to power. “Why are you insisting on giving 12 per cent reservation for Muslims even when they had not supported Telangana State formation,” Mr. Reddy asked.

The meet concluded with the VHP members and leaders taking an oath in support of a Hindu nation.
