Gangster remanded in police custody

VADODARA: Pune gangster Sagar Rajput was remanded in police custody for two days by a local court on Sunday. The detection of crime branch (DCB) had arrested him on Saturday after he was discharged from SSG Hospital. Police said Rajput may have developed many local contacts, including some with history-sheeters.
"During investigations, we learnt that Rajput had made several investments in the city, including buying properties.We want to ascertain how many properties he has bought and where. Also how much money has he invested here as he was staying in the city for last one year," said ACP (crime), Pinakin Parmar. The cops will also focus on the weapons that were recovered from him after Rajput's arrest.
"We want to find out if he bought these weapons from Gujarat or any other state. We had seized one revolver from the spot where Rajput had indulged in shootout with Pune cops. Later during the raid at Rajput's residence, we found one revolver, one pistol and 57 live cartridges," Parmar told TOI. The police want to ascertain whether he had indulged in any crime here as some fake licence plates of vehicles too were found from his house in Chhani.
Investigators are also focusing on his source of income as Rajput didn't run any business here, but he still used to loan money to locals. "It is possible that he was in touch with some local gangs too," Parmar added. Rajput was caught four days ago from a lane behind Nehru Bhavan after Pune police confronted him. He opened fire at them, injuring two cops who too returned fire. Rajput was shot in his leg and later arrested by the city police. Pune police had been looking for him as he was booked in several offences there.
