Veteran Congress leader Brahmaswarup Brahmachari, a saint turned politician, was felicitated by Congress leaders at Jwalapur for his appointment as the Coordinator of the Culture, Religion and Religious Fair Committee, a Cabinet rank position, here today.

He has served the Congress as the vice-president and also the treasurer of the Pradesh Congress Committee. He is the spiritual head of the Jai Ram Ashram, based in Haridwar, Rishikesh and Haryana.

Former legislator and PCC media committee chairperson Ambrish Kumar, senior leader Maqbool Qureshi, OSD (Ardh Kumbh) to CM, Purushottam Sharma, and nominated ward councillor Chamman Pir among other leaders felicitated Brahmaswarup Brahmachari.

Brahmachari thanked the party workers and Chief Minister Harish Rawat for reposing faith in his abilities. “The Chief Minister has focused consistently on the Char Dham pilgrimage as pilgrims and tourists in large numbers have arrived since May 11 when the portals of the holy shrines of Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Gangotri were opened,” he said.

Urging party workers to gear up for the upcoming Assembly elections, he said the state government had been carrying out development works and all 13 districts were being focused upon.

Ambrish Kumar said, “Having a person of clean image like Brahmaswarup Brahmachari at the helm to look into the affairs of culture, religion and fairs is a welcome decision as he himself is a saint and an able leader.”
