Mustafina gets first gymnastics gold for Russia in Rio

Russia's Aliya Mustafina competes in the women's uneven bars event final in Rio de Janeiro on August 14, 2016

Aliya Mustafina gave Russia their first gymnastics gold in Rio when she successfully defended her uneven bars title at the Olympic Games on Sunday. Mustafina, 21, scored 15.900 points to take gold ahead of world champion Madison Kocian of the United States (15.833). Germany's Sophie Scheder took bronze with 15.566. It is the Russian gymnast's seventh Olympic medal and third in Rio after team silver and all-around bronze. The Russian gymnasts were only cleared to compete in Rio by governing body FIG the day before the Olympics got underway amid the fallout of accusations of state-run doping against their country.
