#DipaKarmakar: Twitter hails gymnast Dipa Karmakar for stellar performance at Rio Olympics 2016
Dipa Karmakar was smiling despite missing out on a bronze medal by a whisker, her performance at the vault was commended by fans on social media
It was heart-breaking for Indian fans to see Dipa Karmakar missing a bronze medal by a whisker after her brave performance at the vault. But at the same time it filled the people of India with pride as she came from a country which had no background of Gymnastics, let alone going into participate in the Olympics and qualifying in the finals. What she attempted at the vault has been the reason for gymnasts snapping their necks in the process, but she did it with precision. Her story is truly one heck on an inspiring one and that is why almost everyone watching out for her in Olympics took a moment and expressed their feelings on Twitter as a token of their appreciation, even celebrities and sports personalities appreciated her performance.. Indian fans very full of ecstasy when she qualified for medal contention in a sport only a few knew about, leave alone the logistics of the sport. Everyone was waiting for her performance on August 14 night, just like they waited for Independence 69 years ago. After her performance at the vault, she was holding on to the second position and with USA gymnast Simone Biles to perform at the end, everyone hoped she would get a bronze medal. But Ciulia Steingruber performed well and pushed Karmakar to third position.
Thank u #DipaKarmakar fr getting us united at midnight cheering fr Gymnastics,in a country with no infrastructure for this sport.Super Proud

As soon as Biles completed her performance everyone knew that she would end up winning the contest as she won in Artistic Gymnastics. That is what exactly happened as she won the competition by far and pushing Karmakar on fourth position with a score of 15.066. Indian fans did not feel disappointed but happy about the fact that Karmakar reached that far in first Olympics. She may have not won the medal this time but surely has made her mark in the international circuit and Indian fans’ hearts back home.
