Indian fans very full of ecstasy when she qualified for medal contention in a sport only a few knew about, leave alone the logistics of the sport. Everyone was waiting for her performance on August 14 night, just like they waited for Independence 69 years ago. After her performance at the vault, she was holding on to the second position and with USA gymnast Simone Biles to perform at the end, everyone hoped she would get a bronze medal. But Ciulia Steingruber performed well and pushed Karmakar to third position.

As soon as Biles completed her performance everyone knew that she would end up winning the contest as she won in Artistic Gymnastics. That is what exactly happened as she won the competition by far and pushing Karmakar on fourth position with a score of 15.066. Indian fans did not feel disappointed but happy about the fact that Karmakar reached that far in first Olympics. She may have not won the medal this time but surely has made her mark in the international circuit and Indian fans’ hearts back home.
