The Himachal BJP has dubbed the new retention policy approved by the Cabinet as a “bluff” which is aimed at benefitting builders and not the common man.

“The proposed retention policy will not give any relief to common man but benefit big builders more. It appears the government is trying to bluff the people”, state BJP vice-president Ganesh Dutt said.

Demanding that the policy on “as it is where it is” basis should be implemented in right spirit without any deviation and saying that compounding fee should be reduced further, he asked how the authorities would process over 35,000 cases in just two months.

Ganesh said the policy was silent on the constructions out of Municipal areas and not covered under the TCP Act.

He alleged that the government was less interested in regularising illegal construction of common people and was more concerned about the interests of big builders associated with the ruling party.

He also accused the government of penalising honest officers and said that a police officer who booked the wife of prominent Congress leader in Baddi was transferred.
